Shaker Beds
Shaker theology prohibited marriage, adornment and decoration. Thus Shaker beds were very simple low post beds. Sometimes the posts were turned similar to our low post bed, LP-1. Others were left square like the hired man's bed, LP-3. They were always twin size as there was no need for larger beds. Often they had wooden wheels to facilitate cleaning underneath them.
We don't offer a copy of an actual Shaker bed because no one has ever asked for one. Usually when people refer to a Shaker bed they mean a bed that is plain and unadorned. Often they are refering to a pencil post bed. If you are thinking of a Shaker bed you might take a look at those below. None were actually made the Shakers but they are plain and unadorned. Of course if any one asks we'll be happy to make a reproduction of an actual Shaker bed.
