Federal Four Poster Bed
B-11

This is a fine example of the Federal style with superb reeding and inlay. The foot posts are of mahogany, the head posts and rails of birch and the headboard of pine. All parts appear to be original as does the finish. The foot posts have fine reeding on the urn and bold reeding on the upper vase ending in a swag detail. The inlay features cross banding defined by stringing with arched stringing completing the design. There has been some repair to the cross banding. One bed bolt cover is missing. The head posts are square tapers.
This bed is a fine example of early 19th century craftsmanship and style.
